Topic: SQL Server on SANs
Storage Area Networks (SAN) is widely adopted in medium to large enterprises, and they present interesting challenges and opportunities to managing SQL Server. This session revisits many of the frequently asked questions about running SQL Server on SANs with concrete empirical data points to gain insight into the issues behind these questions. In addition, we’ll discuss methodologies in testing key I/O components of SANs with respect to running SQL Server. The session draws on the presentor’s extensive experience in evaluating and engineering SQL Server solutions in a large enterprise SAN environment.

Linchi Shea has been working with Microsoft SQL Server since version 4.2. He is currently responsible for SQL Server engineering at a major Wall Street firm in the New York City area. Linchi is passionate about creating robust and automated infrastructures for managing SQL Server in a large enterprise environment.
